As alluded to in the previous edition of the Porter Press, further product range extensions were imminent for the Porter Group. Recently announced in the industry press, Porter Equipment has partnered with Sandvik as a dealer for their Mobile crushers and Screens, in the territory of Western Australia. On the back of the success that Porter Equipment has had with the product in New Zealand since 2009, Sandvik has recognised the need to do something different in the Western Australian market, and the ability of Porter Equipment to assist in achieving their goals. The new arrangements came into effect 1st March 2018 and Porter Equipment is extremely positive about the prospect and opportunity that this presents. The Western Australian market is making headway in its recovery and the extraction sector is at the forefront of this market recovery. The level of inquiry since the announcement has been very encouraging and Porter Equipment is thrilled at the chance to extend the relationship with Sandvik and grow the collective business in Australia.
In other news from Australia, the Porter Group has recently shifted premises in Sydney to a much larger facility with significantly increased capacity. This shift was necessitated by the very rapid growth of the Sydney operation which for some time has been the busiest outlet in Australia for both Porter Equipment and Porter Hire. The boom in the New South Wales market, on the back of infrastructure development, has enabled the group to grow our customer base, footprint and revenues to a sustainable high that will see the new facility pay dividends in the years to come. While the growth in NSW operation has coincided with the overall growth of the local market, the Porter Group has grown market share considerably which will ensure sustainability through the business cycle.
Similarly, roading and infrastructure in NZ is keeping the industry busy and is extending the long period of buoyancy in the market. Porter Hire is realising the returns on the notable investment made in preparation for this season, as contractors and project alliances opt for newer and more reliable equipment solutions for these major infrastructure projects. There has been a visible shift in approach on these major infrastructure jobs as stakeholders prefer reliability and productivity derived from sourcing the latest and newest equipment.
While the summer season is all but over (NZ & Australia), the level of inquiry and activity has not slowed and its shaping up to be a very positive outlook for the coming months. We continue to diversify our offering across the group to ensure that we are engaged at higher levels in all sectors of our industry. This is proving to be very beneficial to our customer base, resulting in consistently increasing activity trends in all of our operating territories.
